DIRECTOR
CRISTINA SINGLETON

Mrs. Cristina Quevedo Singleton has been dancing since the age of three. She was raised in Friendswood and graduated from FHS as an honor graduate. At FHS she participated in four musicals: DirectorShow Boat (chorus), Annie Get Your Gun (chorus), Oklahoma! (Laurey), The Sound of Music (Maria) and was a member of the Honor Society, Campus Singers, Tennis and Volleyball Teams and Marshall of the Wranglerettes under Laurie Boren.

While in the Houston area, Mrs. Singleton performed six seasons at Six Flags AstroWorld, Theatre Under the Stars, Stages, and Ovations. She attended Texas A&M on an academic scholarship majoring in pre-med.

At A&M she taught a night dance class for non-dance majors. It was while teaching this class that Mrs. Singleton realized just how much she missed dancing and performing. She transferred to Sam Houston University where she was a member of Dance Spectrum and also had leads in the department's theatre and musical theatre productions. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre (Dance Emphasis) Cum Laude in 1999.

Upon graduation from SHSU, Mrs. Singleton, aka, Cristina Quevedo, moved to NYC where she appeared in several productions on the East Coast, a dancer in industrial shows with Chez/Zam Entertainment, singer at Dillon's in NYC and as a singer with the Celebrity Cruise Lines.

She has also performed with The Great Caruso Dinner Theatre in Cabaret (Fraulein Kost / U/S Sally Bowles / Kit Kat Girl) and 50's Doo Wop, Houston's Theatre Under the Stars productions of Zorro: The Musical, The Wizard of Oz, Brigadoon, (Ensemble / U/S Meg), My Fair Lady, Jekyll and Hyde (Ensemble / Red Rat Girl).

Other productions in which she has performed are You're It!, The Yellow Rose of Texas the Musical (Maria), Galveston: The Musical, Tombstone (Esperanza - NYU University), Christmas Wonders (featured singer and dancer), Hitwave, Nunsense (Sister Robert Anne), Damn Yankees (Lola) and The Scarlet Letter (Hester Prynne). She has worked under such directors as Glenn Casale (Broadway director of Peter Pan), Robert Cuccioli (Broadway director and performer: original Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde), Frank Young (TUTS Founder), Michael Tapley (TUTS Asst. Artistic Director), John Cornelius (Stages Repretory), Roy Hamlin (TUTS Artistic Director), and Carl Rajotte (The Palace Theatre).

As a performer Mrs. Singleton earned the nomination from the New Hampshire Theatre Awards for Best Supporting Actress in her performance as Diana Morales in A Chorus Line at The Palace Theatre. Her performances at the American Music Theatre in Lancaster, PA have been referred to as 'stunning' and 'superlative.' 'The same voice that lights a chancel candle with "Ave Maria" also gives "All I Want for Christmas Is You" an R&B hot foot.'

A review by Craig Curry of Cristina's performance in Nunsense: "All of the sisters were incredibly comic, but there is one who took this musical comedy to another level. Cristina Quevedo played Sister Robert Anne and she absolutely stole the show with her vivacious performance. What was even more impressive than her energy was her sensational singing voice. This girl has a glorious set of lungs that made her solo parts astonishingly enjoyable."

Mrs. Singleton taught dance at studios in Pearland, Deer Park and League City. She has choreographed such productions as You're It! and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She has studied dance at the Broadway Dance Center in NYC, Glen Hunsucker, Houston Ballet Academy, and Jonathan Charles. Her vocal training has been with Phil Hall (NYC director and vocal coach), Lou Ann Miles (Broadway performer in Nine) and Darlene James (performer with Houston's HGO).

Cristina Singleton is excited about this chapter in her life as the new Celebrities Drill Team Director and working with such talented girls. "After performing for years, I had no idea I would love teaching so much. I love being around people who want to be a part of a team and a family. I know that most of the girl's memories from high school will be of this team, the friendships they will create, the sweat they will endure, and the success they will share.

There is something about turning on that music and forgetting everything else going on in your life, even if it's just for a couple of hours. I know what they go through. I've been there and I am here for them. Because I love what I do and they love what they do, this is going to be a rewarding year: challenging, hard working, and most importantly, fun!"

Mrs. Singleton lives in League City with her husband Matt (A&M graduate), daughter Maggie and infant son TJ.
